Recruiting Calendar

Key Terms in the Recruiting Calendar

Contact Period

During this time, authorized athletics department staff members can have in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations with prospective student-athletes. This is the most flexible period in terms of recruiting activities, allowing for face-to-face interactions.

Evaluation Period

This period allows college coaches to evaluate a prospective student-athlete’s academic qualifications and playing ability. However, no in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts are permitted during this time. Coaches can watch athletes in action at practices and games but cannot have direct conversations with them off-campus.

Quiet Period

The quiet period restricts in-person recruiting to the college’s campus only. Coaches may not conduct any off-campus recruiting activities or make in-person visits to a prospective student-athlete’s home or school.

Dead Period

The most restrictive of all periods, the dead period prohibits any in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on or off-campus. Additionally, prospective student-athletes cannot make official or unofficial visits to the institution’s campus during this time.

Recruiting Shutdown

This is a period when no form of recruiting is allowed. This includes contacts, evaluations, official or unofficial visits, and any form of communication (calls, emails, etc.) between coaches and prospective student-athletes.
